美国除美屬薩摩亞以外的海外领地也先后通过了同性婚姻法案。这些自治领地依次是：關島、北马里亚纳群岛、美屬維爾京群島和波多黎各以及美国本土外小岛屿（無常住居民，適用本土法律）。部分美國部落國（英语：Same-sex marriage in tribal nations in the United States）已實施同性婚姻；部分美國部落國既不實行美國同性結合法律也不認可任何同性伴侶關係；部分部落國及美屬薩摩亞（英语：Same-sex marriage in American Samoa）雖不實行同性婚姻政策但承認同性伴侶關係。
依據歐洲法院對“科曼與其他人訴內政部與移民總檢查局案（英语：Coman and Others v General Inspectorate for Immigration and Ministry of the Interior）”的裁決，歐洲聯盟成員國必須為歐盟公民的外國配偶（無論性別）提供居住權；除羅馬尼亞外，其餘成員國均遵守該判決。
法院已承认guru-shishya（英语：guru-shishya）、nata pratha（英语：nata pratha）、maitri karar（英语：maitri karar）类型的契约关系，但它们不具有法律约束力。
