„Euronymous, his band Mayhem and other key figures in the scene would transform Venom’s quasi-Satanic stage theatrics into a form of cultural expression unique from other forms of metal or Satanism. The early Nordic scene often suggested that they had no interest in making the world a better place or alleviating suffering; on the contrary, they asserted a desire to increase human suffering. Euronymous was the central figure involved in the formation of the Norwegian black metal scene.
