Brett Glass: MS-DOS 5: Reigning OS improves its value. In: InfoWorld. Band13, Nr.27, 8. Juli 1991, S.61 (englisch, eingeschränkte Vorschau in der Google-Buchsuche): “After the release of the buggy, much-maligned MS-DOS 4.0, Microsoft devoted its operating system marketing and development muscle to OS/2. DOS-based Windows 3.0 surprised even Microsoft by leaving OS/2 in the dust, and Windows quickly showed signs that it required a sturdier, more memory-efficient foundation than DOS 3.3 or DOS 4.0. At the same time, Digital Research Inc. challenged Microsoft’s DOS stronghold by introducing DR DOS 5.0. … Motivated by these new developments, Microsoft dusted off its DOS tools and began work on MS-DOS 5.0. After months of anticipation and the largest beta-test program in history, DOS 5.0 is ready for prime time. … Many of MS-DOS 5.0’s new features have likely been inspired by DR DOS 5.0. …”
Ken Marlin: Where to buy MS-DOS 6.22 License sticker / Do We still need one for commercial use. (Internetforum) In: social.microsoft.com. Microsoft, 4. Februar 2016, abgerufen am 3. Mai 2022 (englisch): „DOS 6.22 was only available via the Microsoft Embedded channel and it most certainly requires a license and a COA sticker. You are correct in that it went EOL on 12/31/15 and is no longer available. In fact you are prohibited from shipping any new systems with DOS 6.22 on them because the Embedded agreement that you would have signed in order to buy the product does not allow you to ship a new device with the product after the EOL date. There is no replacement. Your best option is to move to something like FreeDOS.“
