In 1683 Annapolis was erected into a town, port, and place of trade, under the name of the 'Town Land at Proctors.
[Anne Arundel county] was probably so called from the maiden name of Lady Baltimore, then late deceased — Lady Anne Arundel, the daughter of Lord Arundel of Wardour, whom Cecilius Lord Baltimore had married.
