  • Kemp, Gary (24 June 2013). "Spandau Ballet (A-Side)". Mastertapes. Series 2. UK. 16:56 minutes in. BBC. BBC Radio 4. Retrieved 10 August 2022. I wanted to do a James Bond theme song. That's what was in my head. I loved John Barry. I loved the chords, the sort of… eastern European chords. And Gold was obviously from Goldfinger, I guess, you know… It was about trying to make a movie theme.

  • Hadley 2004, pp. 133–134:We were under no illusions about the extent to which an appearance on the show could affect record sales. Consequently, if TOTP summoned us, we were always there. The sole exception was for 'Gold', which climbed to number 2 while we were out of the country doing promotional work. TOTP asked us to appear that week and we turned them down, not because we were arrogant or complacent - we were working in Norway and would have had to shelve other commitments to return to the UK. Still, it wasn't as if we didn't have a fallback… Anyway, the idea was that the video would play when we couldn't. But when we couldn't make TOTP, they decided not to run it. I'm sure that's what cost 'Gold' the number 1 slot. Hadley, Tony (2004). To Cut a Long Story Short. London: Sidgwick & Jackson. ISBN 978-0-283-07386-1.
