This prompted the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to classify them as a state-listed “Species of Special Concern.” During the past quarter century, occupied range and densities have increased markedly. Results from the annual Bowhunter Survey and the Hunter Mail survey have identified bobcat sightings in 14 of Maryland’s 23 counties. Currently, bobcats have dual legal classification in Maryland.
