  • 2021年8月11日シチリア州シラクーザ県シラクサにおいて観測された48.8℃の最高気温は、シチリア農業気象情報サービス(SAIS)により認証された。もしこれが世界気象機関(WMO)によって承認された場合、この記録はヨーロッパにおける観測史上最高気温となる[90]。しかしながら、イタリア気象局の中間管理職であるグイド・グイディは、シチリア農業気象情報サービスの気象観測所においてこの熱波の最中に確認された最高気温は同じくシチリア州シラクーザ県のレンティーニにあるシゴネラ基地英語版イタリア語版において観測された44.4℃であったと述べた[90]。グイディはSAISによって報告されたデータは「気象観測所によって直接記録されたものであり、いかなる種類の制御も受けていないばかりか、自動または手動の検証方法にさえ従っていない。そのため、この記録は観測機器の誤動作もしくは保守点検への不適切な介入によるものである可能性がある」と強調している[90]
