The Firefly flight from Subang Airport was forced to land at Senai Airport in Johor, where the passengers were not allowed to disembark after its attempts to land at Seletar Airport in Singapore failed twice.

Upcoming plans are for FY to operate three routes taking over from Malaysia Airlines (MAS), namely Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu-Tawau and Kota Kinabalu-Kuching.
Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is set to facilitate the Intra-Borneo services transfer from Malaysia Airlines to Firefly, effective this May 16, as a result of continued demand recoveries across all markets, The group, in a press statement, said Firefly would facilitate one-time daily return flights using the Boeing 737-800 between Kota Kinabalu (BKI) and Sandakan (SDK), Tawau (TWU), and Kuching (KCH), as well as a daily return service between Kuching (KCH) and Miri (MYY).
Firefly, a subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) will start of jet operations from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang (SZB) to Penang and Kota Kinabalu next month.
“CEO of Firefly, Philip See, has mentioned that they have planned two new routes for Sarawak which are Kuching-Miri and Kuching-Kota Kinabalu starting quarter 2, 2023,” the statement said.
Firefly will operate the charter flights three times a week, scheduled to arrive in Tawau every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with a 540-seat capacity per week until the end of March.
The jet operations will complement the existing nine times daily to Penang served by the ATR72, bringing the total number of flights between Penang and the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport to 10 daily.
Low-cost carrier Firefly will set up a full-fledged hub here in May, which will pave the way for the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) sister company to take over some routes from MAS.
He (Ahmad Luqman) shared that for a start, they have commenced charter flights from China to Kuala Lumpur using MAS services, "Based on their discussions with the charterers, I was told that charter flights from Xiamen to Kota Kinabalu will start once the hub is set up...and we will then have a lot more direct connectivity with China and the North Asia-Pacific," said Liew.
